New Delhi, September 18, 2025: Decathlon, the global multi-specialist sports brand, has announced the 8th edition of its World Cleanup Day initiative in India. The company will host over 50 cleanup events across the country, bringing together more than 6,000 participants.

Building on the success of last year’s campaign, which saw over 3,600 participants collect more than 7,000 kilograms of waste, this year’s edition will involve activities ranging from beach and forest cleanups to hike plogging and neighborhood playground cleanups. The initiative aims to create a sustainable ecosystem that inspires connection, collaboration, and community.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Decathlon has integrated circularity into its business model through repair services, buyback and resale programs, and its Second Life initiative. These measures seek to make sports more accessible and affordable while reducing product waste. The company also collaborates with specialized waste management partners to ensure responsible processing of collected materials, prioritizing recycling and channeling residual waste into energy recovery.

The nationwide effort is being organized in collaboration with NGOs, local authorities, and Decathlon volunteers, highlighting the role of partnerships and collective action in achieving environmental impact.

Speaking about the initiative, Annie George, Leader Sustainable Development, Decathlon India, said, “World Cleanup Day gives us an opportunity to stand by our mission and demonstrate our belief that the ‘world is our playground’, where every space is an opportunity to move, play and embrace the joy of sport. As a responsible brand, we are mindful of the impact of our activities on the environment and we are taking action to reduce and manage waste across our value chain. We are committed to giving purpose to 100% of our operational waste through recycling and scientific disposal, and are progressing steadily towards this goal. This initiative is another step in Decathlon’s ongoing sustainability journey and its commitment to a healthier future.”

Through these efforts, Decathlon continues to connect sports with environmental responsibility, encouraging communities across India to participate in collective action for cleaner and greener spaces.
