Pune, September 25, 2025: Corning Incorporated has inaugurated Maharashtra’s first 3D-printed school, called The Skill Will Center, at the Ambethan Zila Panchayat School near its optical fiber facility in Chakan, Pune. The project, completed in just 67 days, marks Corning’s latest community initiative to promote education through innovation.
3D-printed buildings use large-scale printers with concrete and earth-based materials to construct walls and other components, saving time, cost, and reducing waste. The new facility is designed to help children develop essential life skills, including creative thinking, problem-solving, and communication.
“The Skill Will facility will develop a scientific attitude in our students and enable them to grow further in their educational journey,” said Rohidas Yelwande, Ambethan Zila Panchayat School.
“At Corning, we believe that innovation and collaboration can create meaningful change. Our initiatives in Pune reflect our commitment to empowering communities and enabling brighter futures,” said John McGirr, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Optical Fiber and Cable, Corning Incorporated.
Highlighting Corning’s long-term efforts in the region, Sudhir Pillai, Managing Director, Corning India, noted, “Our partnership with the Varale Gram and Ambethan Zila Panchayats reflects Corning’s dedication to addressing local needs with impactful, sustainable solutions. From Varale’s school expansion to Maharashtra’s first 3D-printed school, these projects represent our vision of creating lasting value through education and innovation. We remain committed to fostering brighter futures for generations to come.”
The initiative builds on Corning’s earlier projects in Pune, including classroom expansions, community facilities, e-learning programs, and the development of schools to improve access to inclusive and high-quality education.
