New Delhi, 15 July, 2025: On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta Group, announced that it has provided skill-based training to nearly 25,000 youth across its operational regions. The company has focused its efforts on bridging the skills gap through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and digital literacy programs.

In Rajasthan, more than 20,000 youth from Barmer have been trained across 15 sectors and 35 job roles through Cairn’s Barmer Hub Center and 56 spoke centres. Over 35% of those trained have gone on to start their own small businesses, while the Cairn Enterprise Centre (CEC) has maintained an 80% job placement rate, with a 70% job retention rate.

Cairn’s two main training centres—the Cairn Enterprise Centre (CEC) in Barmer and Cairn Centre of Excellence (CCOE) in Jodhpur—have offered vocational programs aimed at increasing employability and creating sustainable livelihoods. Women account for 25% of the beneficiaries, trained in fields such as beauty and make-up, banking, masonry, and computers.

“Youth are the future of the nation, and it is our responsibility to provide them with an opportunity to build a meaningful life,” said a Cairn spokesperson. “Cairn Oil & Gas is committed to contributing to nation-building by empowering the youth in the areas it operates in, through skill development initiatives and training programs to meet the talent demands of the growing nation. It makes us proud to see these young individuals, trained in our centres, succeed in their lives independently and with confidence.”

Aligned with this year’s World Youth Skills Day theme—Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills—Cairn has also implemented initiatives to enhance digital literacy. Its e-kaksha program, launched in 2020 to provide digital education to students in Rajasthan, has reached over 23 million students—far exceeding its initial target of 9 million by 2030.

In Assam, Cairn has established a digital classroom at Sarupathar College in Golaghat district, benefiting nearly 4,000 students. The facility has evolved into a skill development centre that introduces students to digital tools and modern learning environments.

The impact of these initiatives is reflected in individual stories. Bharat Kumar, an alumnus of CEC’s computer course, has secured admission to the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). He credited the centre with helping him develop communication and computer skills that supported his academic journey.

Similarly, Joga Ram from Sanchore used skills learned in CEC’s mobile repairing course to open his own business—Ramdev Mobile & Repairing Centre—in Karda village. Previously struggling to find employment, he now considers enrolling in the course as a life-changing decision.

Cairn Oil & Gas continues to implement skill development and digital literacy initiatives in the regions where it operates, focusing on local training needs and employment opportunities.
