Special features of the organization
Voluntary Service Association (VSA) is a non-government social organisation formed by a group of likeminded professionals and youth from various segments of the society. VSA works to emancipate the poor and illiterate people through programmes of education, vocational training and improvement of community health services to organise a democratic, exploitation free society, ensuring quality of opportunity to all. It works to give a better life to the weaker and underprivileged section of society living in the rural areas and slums around Delhi. It focuses on livelihood & education for the children especially girl child and non-formal adult education especially for women. The organisation is actively involved in various social concerns and is assisting in several development programmes of the Government of India, and also implements projects relating to empowerment of rural poor, especially women and children. , VSA, over the past 3 years, has demonstrated a replicable vocational and life skills training and economic empowerment model for adolescents and youth for livelihood promotion and empowerment. VSA has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience by way of working with the government, corporate and the civil society organizations to improve the lives and conditions of disadvantaged youth and women in Delhi and three other states in India.The key elements of VSA s technical/vocational and life skills training system are accessibility, response to labour market demands, focused on the unorganized labour and service sector that are growing most rapidly. It aimed at empowering the disadvantaged youth in rural centers, by placing them suitably in gainful vocation and has now been established as a replicable model. With the critical elements of its success in the market-driven trades and life skills development that lead to gainful employment in collaboration with the local industries and the community has become an example of success. , VSA initiative touching the lives of 300 families of Deoria and Gorakhpur districts. VSA has enabled the following: , Remedial and computer education for children and youth. , Non-formal education/streamlining of non-school going children into regular schools. , Vocational guidance/training for skill development amongst youth (Samarth). , Health Awareness programmes on Reproductive Health (RCH), STD and AIDS prevention. , Counseling for women and adolescents. , Effective waste management and sensitization of slum dwellers on cleanliness and personal and public hygiene. , Conversion of open-air waste dumps into a playground for children.
