Special features of the organization

Activities of the Society , , The Palaeontological Society of India was formed with the main aim of promoting and popularization of palaeontology. , , (1) Publications , , The Society publishes a research journal biannually which is of international standard with 0.47 impact factor. In this journal original scientific papers are published. Besides journal, it has published five Field guide books, Six Special publications three monographs and one atlas. , , (2) Lectures , Society has started three lecture series in the memory of eminent geoscientists of the country. These are held annually, namely Prof. M.R. Sahni Memorial Lecture, Prof. R.C. Misra Memorial Lecture and Prof. S.N. Singh Memorial Lecture. In these Lectures, geoscientist from India and abroad are invited to deliver lectures to inspire young research scholars and to popularise palaeontology in general. , , (3) Medals , To encourage students / research scientists, Society has instituted six Gold Medals which are regularly awarded to encourage palaeontological researches. These Medals are: , , 1. Prof. M.R. Sahni Gold Medal, awarded every year to the P.G. student of Lucknow University, who secures highest percentage of marks in Palaeontology paper. , 2. Prof. S.N. Bhalla commemorative Medal awarded alternate years to scientists for outstanding research work in Micropalaeontology. , 3. Sharda Chandra Gold Medal awarded every year for meritorious research paper published in palaeontology on Indian material (Annually). , 4. Mani Shanker Shukla Gold Medal for out standing research in Micropalaeontology to Scientists below 35 years (Annually). , 5. Prof. R.C. Misra Memorial Life Time Achievement Award A Gold Medal for outstanding contributions in Geosciences (Annually). , 6. Prof. S.K. Singh Memorial Gold Medal for best research paper published in the Journal of the Palaeontological Society of India (Annually). , , 4. Field Workshops and Seminars , Society organizes Seminars, Symposia Brainstorming Sessions, and National and International Field Workshops. Till date Society has organized four International Field Workshops. The Society has organized four International Field Workshops, two National workshops on Palaeontological and Biostratigraphical aspects. , , 5. Palaeontological Library , Palaeontological Society has established a library from research journals received in exchange from number of countries namely South Africa, Peoples Republic of China, Poland etc. , , (M.
