Special features of the organization
PRATIKRITI, a leading theatre group in Bengali Theatre, was founded in 1972 under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed actor Soumitra Chatterjee. In 1976, Alok Deb became the director of Pratikriti and since then under his direction the group has produced 17 plays catering to national taste and tradition. Presently, Pratikriti has the following plays for regular performance round the year, viz., Kenaram Becharam, Birsa Mundar Gaan, Darpane Sharatshashi, Dampati, Padmanadeer Majhi and Moinar Maa. In 2000 Pratikriti began its street - theatre wing. Birsa Mundar Gaan, May Dibase Maa, Aloy Phera (against Aids) are among the important plays for regular performance. In 2004, Pratikriti began its another wing, viz,. theatre for the children. So far, Rammohaner Chhelebela, Modhusudaner Chhelebela, Iswarchandra & Shaheed Khudidram have been produced with great success. Presently, early life of Tagore is in the making. Awards won a) Best production in 1996 awarded by the Drama Academy, Kolkata, b) Best actress awarded by the Govt. West Bengal in 1996. c) Best director (P.B.Award) in 2001. Important Festivals attended a) 12th Peoples Theatre Festival in Chennai in 12997, b) A 2-day theatre-festival in Delhi in 2002 sponsored by the Impresasrio India, New Delhi, c) Theatre festival in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2005 sponsored by the theatre group Padatik Dhaka. Important festival of plays organized during the last seven years a) Foundation day celebration in 2002 & 2003. Besides, important local theatre groups, renowned threatre groups from Dhaka Bangladesh, viz. Theatre Dhaka and Natyajan Dhak, took part in the said festivals, b) Festival in aid of the victims of Tsunami in 2005. Important participants were Sundaram, Rangkarmee, Sayak, Lokokristi & host Pratikriti. Important seminar organized a) Meadia & Theatre in 2004, b) Manik Banerjee and Bengali theatre in 2006, c) From Literature to Theatre & Film in 2008. Publication Pratikriti has a publication wing and its 1st publication is on Sova Sen, a living legend in Bengali theatre, in 2004. Pratikriti Natyapatra, a theatre magazine is being published regularly since 2006.
