LWSIT has been working in the field of relief, rehabilitation and development in different parts of the country with the people in disaster and distressed with socio-economic marginalization . The broad goal is improving quality of life through sustainable livelihood, food and human security. , Aiming at Social Transformation, Economic Empowerment with Disaster Risk Reduction, LWSIT emphasises on building community capacity through social mobilization and formation of people s organization, equip them with knowledge, information and skill, establish and strengthen effective linkage with government & financial institutions for resource support and availing their entitlement and provisions. Establish networks with likeminded organisations for necessary technical support, sharing experience. , , In urban areas to ensure equality and justice through Gender Empowerment, LWSIT works with underprivileged slum dwellers to sensitize on gender equivalence in the decision making process, accessing provisions and entitlements, reduce discrimination & violence to lead a life with dignity and justice . Third gender is also partner community to this inclusive approach. , For Riot victims, especially the ethnic minorities, Socio Economic Empowerment with Peace and Reconciliation is aimed by LWSIT through an organized collective initiative to address common causes of insecurity, conflict and hunger and productive utilization of resources for sustainable livelihood, food and human security. , , LWSIT with the support of Department of Science &Technology, emphasises promotion of renewable energy and water resources, through multi-sectorial approach by enhancing community action towards sustainable environment. , , Occupational health hazard for Stone quarry affected communities through Development Support and facilitating their participation in the sustainable development enables stone quarry workers to secure the rights and have greater control over live and livelihood. , , LWSIT joins hand with Department of SC&ST Development, Go to promote Micro Watershed Development, under OTEL Plus, for improved livelihood support through land and water management, agricultural and horticulture development, livestock and aqua -culture production, rural financial service, community infrastructure development and participatory forest management. , , LWSIT implements the scheme of Shelter for Urban Homeless of the Department of Social Welfare, GoWB. , , An Open Shelter for Girl Children at Kolkata Urban Unit provides care and protection to the children from vulnerable families, with the objective of overall wellbeing of the girls through education,counselling and also emphasising on performing arts. , , Being a humanitarian organization, LWSIT stands with the victims of natural, as well as, manmade disasters viz. floods, landslides, cloudburst, cyclone, earthquake, tornado, tsunami, drought, ethnic conflict, etc. and provides immediate assistance in the form of relief, rehabilitation and recovery support through various means without discriminating caste, creed, religion, ethnicity, gender or political conviction across India. LWSIT always maintain coordination with Govt, Inter Agency Groups and other International and National NGOs during the time of disaster in order to ensure transparency and accountability in emergency response. As core principles, LWSIT follows SPHERE standards and HAP principles while responding to disasters and receives funding support globally through the network called ACT Alliance. , , LWSIT has bagged JSW & The Times Group sponsored the Earth Care Award and its partner community Best Community Based Disaster Management team.
