Special features of the organization
Disaster Management: - Jana Sanghati Kendra (JSK) has conducted immediate relief operations after every major flood and cyclone in West Bengal since the 1990 s.It has also done some amount of rehabilitation work and has organised people in post disaster situations to better access and use Government relief. , Drinking Water:-JSK has done work on arsenic contamination of drinking water, including installation and popularisation of domestic filters and of community water sources. , Education & Literacy: - JSK conducts regular training programmes to educate women especially about their rights as women. It has trained several thousand such women since its inception, averaging about 2-3000 women every year, at present , Health & Family Welfare: - JSK runs a mobile health camp under NRHM in Left Wing Extremist affected areas in Purulia district. It also runs similar camps in Sunderbans and has done this in Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Midnapore and Bankura districts. , Human Rights: - JSK creates awareness about the Right to Food and Work and about Right to Health, organising meetings and workshops on the same as well as bringing out simple educational literature on these issues , Legal Awareness Aid: - JSK provides legal aid to women who are victims of violence. It helps by providing legal aid in about 250 cases every year. , Labour & Employment: - JSK helps workers in the unorganised sector, especially women workers by creating awareness about their rights , Micro Finance (SHGs):- JSK has worked with the State Government to form and support groups under the SGSY and is now doing the same under NRLM. , Panchayati Raj: - JSK has created awareness amongst village people on the Panchayat Raj Act and the way in which gram sabha meetings can be used for local planning. , Rural Development & Poverty Alleviation: - JSK takes up programmes such as housing, drinking water, sanitation etc. in order to improve rural infrastructure. , Vocational Training: - JSK has trained youth as para medical workers and plans to also train para legal workers to provide services to village people in remote areas , Women s Development & Empowerment: - JSK s training programmes amongst women focus on gender issues and empower women. Similar programmes are conducted to sensitise men to gender issues. , Youth Affairs: - JSK is now involved in motivating rural youth to take up activities for the betterment of their communities.
