Special features of the organization
Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) was established in 1969 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with the main objective to help towards advancement, dissemination and application of the knowledge of Remote Sensing technology, which is deemed to include photo interpretation, photogrammetry, image processing, and other related technologies in the field of survey, planning and management of natural resources and other areas of application by organising seminars/symposium and by publishing journal, bulletins, proceedings, etc. It also provides recognition for outstanding contribution in the field of Remote Sensing by way of Awards, Medals and other suitable methods. ISRS registered office is located at IIRS campus, Dehra Dun and presently also has 24 Chapters in different States. Starting with 56 members, the Society has now grown into a premier professional body with membership of around 4700 members, including both individual and Institutional members. ISRS also has a status of an ordinary membership (Category 6) of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and has supported ISPRS in its objectives of promoting international co-operation, co-ordination and advancement of Geo-spatial technology and related sciences to improve quality of mankind by sustainable natural resources development and environmental management by participating/conducting workshops symposia of different working Groups. ISRS is also ordinary member of Asian Association of Remote Sensing (AARS), which is an Asian non-government organisation dedicated to promote remote sensing through exchange of information, mutual cooperation and international understanding and goodwill amongst the member countries of Asia-Pacific Region. ISRS brings out its journal with the name of Journal of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (JISRS) bi-monthly from February, 2016. Now, its Volume 44, Issue 4, August, 2016 has been published. The JISRS has become truly international by virtue of its joint publication with international reputed technical journal publisher Springer .
