Special features of the organization

The Indian Association of Soil and Water Conservationists (IASWC) was established in 1972 at Dehradun, as a non-profit making body to encourage wise land use planning and conservation of soil and water resources so that these basic resources can be utilized to sustain mankind. The IASWC resorts itself through its members to serve as a forum of scientists, conservation professionals, administrators and policy makers in assessing the need for soil and water conservation and watershed management. , , Aims and Objectives , To promote and disseminate the knowledge, practice and research in the science and technology of Soil and Water Conservation. , To encourage free exchange of ideas amongst those contributing to the advancement of Soil and Water Conservation such as Agronomists, Agrostologists, Ecologists, Engineers, Foresters, Geologists, Land Users and Soil Scientists etc. by organizing symposia, lectures and bringing out literature etc. , Activities of the Association , Publication of Indian Journal of Soil Conservation: During the last four decades, the Indian Journal of Soil Conservation (IJSC) made its journey starting in humble beginning during 1973 as a Soil Conservation Digest (Vol.1 (1973) to Vol. 5 (1977). It was renamed as Indian Journal of Soil Conservation w.e.f. Vol.6 (1978). , , IASWC Awards and Honours , The IASWC has instituted the following awards and honours from 2004 onwards for outstanding contributions in the field of Natural Resource Management: , , Honorary Fellows; Fellows ; Young Soil Conservationist Award ; IASWC Gold Medal ; Best Research Paper Award ; Dr K.G. Tejwani Award , , Conferences organized by IASWC , The IASWC, besides publishing the Journal, also holds national and regional conferences. Since 2005, the IASWC has organized the following International, National and Regional Conferences: , 1. National Seminar on Soil Conservation and Watershed Management at New Delhi September 17-18, 1985. , 2. National Seminar on Land and Water management in Ravines at Dehradun February 11-13, 1987. , 3. 8th International Soil Conservation Organization (ISCO) Conference on Soil and Water Conservation- Challenges and Opportunities at New Delhi December 4-8, 1994. , 4. National Conference on Resource Conservation and Watershed Management (RCWM-2001) at Dehradun May 23-25, 2001. , 5. National Conference on Resource Conserving Technologies for Social Upliftment (RCTSU) held at NASC, New Delhi from December 7-9, 2004. , , 6. National Conference on Natural Resource Management for Eco-development and Livelihood Security (NEMRLSI) held at CSWCRTI, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu) from November, 24-25, 2005. , , 7. Conference on Natural Resource Management for Social Development (NRMSD) held at Pune, Maharashtra from October 11-13, 2006. , , 8. Conference on Environment and Livelihood Security through Resource Management (ELSRM) in Northern India held at CSWCRTI, Research Centre, Chandigarh from October 29-31, 2007. , , 9. Conference on Food and Environment Security through Resource Conservation (FESCO) in Central India: Challenges and Opportunities held at CSWCRTI, Research Centre, Agra from September, 16-18, 2009. , , 10.
