Special features of the organization
HOWRAH SOUTH POINT was founded in 1976 by a French Father to help handicapped children from the slums and provide a medical support to the most deprived in Howrah, the industrial suburb of Calcutta. , Over the years the association has responded to the various and urgent needs of the poor people from Howrah, Calcutta and the Northern part of West Bengal. , Today, Howrah South Point is completely run by Indian administrators and social workers. Its activities are divided into 4 main programmes: , -Rehabilitation of the Handicapped , -Health Care , -Education For The Deprived, and , -Housing For The Poor , Besides those main projects, 4 other programmes are run to help the aged and destitute people, to respond to the S.O.S. calls of distressed populations of West Bengal during floods or cyclones, or to provide money to HSP. , For HSP, those 26 years of existence have been a fruitful co-operation with local institutions, other NGO s, government instances, foreign donors and many well wishers. , Today the organisation runs 3 formal schools, 3 non-formal schools and 3 special schools with a total strength of about 2010 students. At present we are running 8 Homes in 2 districts of West Bengal. We also run Vocational Trainings, Day Centre, Orthopaedic Workshop and a Restaurant called Aaram Kutir.
