DRAMMAR

DRAMMAR is now almost 5 years old. During this rather short tenure it has been able to create an impression in the theatre lover s community of Kolkata. So far, we have created four full length productions for regular proscenium shows and two short duration plays appropriate for fairs, festivals and street shows. Two of our productions are from renowned authors and two are completely written by Sukumar Chakraborty, our secretary and director as well. , Although we could not arrange large number of shows, mostly due to our financial limitations, but the limited number of shows we arranged for each and every one of our productions, had been accepted very well, also appreciated and applauded by our audience. We got positive feedbacks from the critics also, and got good reviews in local news papers. , We have got call shows from different organizations in and around Kolkata, which again proves the acceptability of our productions. We have worked on several different subjects ranging from human relationships (PUTUL NACHER ITIKATHA by Manik Bandopadhyay) to exploitation of women by male dominant society (BOHIPEER by Syed Waliullah); Political musical satire in the context of mythology (KALKIPURAN by Sukumar Chakraborty) to a comedy attacking the corruption and ill-practices in the Medical Industry (HECHKI by Sukumar Chakraborty). , Apart from holding shows, we have also organized several workshops to spread theatre literacy among the people, especially among the youth, and to train them. We have sought help from some renowned theatre personalities to take a couple of classes. As a result of this, couple of members groomed by DRAMMAR are working in other media also like Television, Cinema, etc.
