Special features of the organization
The organization has three major activities , 1 Service , 2 Research , 3 Publication , Under activity 1, organization runs two Day Care Centers for the under privilege elderly (60+). Beneficiaries of these two day care centers are frail in health, are obviously malnourished, and utterly neglected by their family members. They visit our Organization at around 11am each day, stay a few hours ( till 4pm), and all this while they are actively involved in mostly recreational activities like watching television, preparing hand -made paper bags, or just chatting away within themselves. The Organization thus provides a source of relief and much needed support for these neglected masses of our society. The Organization runs one Mobile Medicare Unit to provide primary medical facilities to nearly 400 beneficiaries living in 8 slum areas of the city. The Organization has qualified doctors, social workers, and organizers for managing these camps. Research is the strength of the Organization. It has a proven record of conducting various research themes sponsored by ICSSR, WHO, INSA and many other reputed Organizations. Of late, research activities are spreading in the technical domain as well. Fall among the elderly is one of the primary study topics. The Organization maintains a small lab for trials and tests in respect of technology intervention of the research work. Publication is yet another domain of activity of the Organization. Quarterly journal Ageing & Society , The Indian Journal of Gerontology are published regularly. These journals are the platform of researchers in the field of Gerontology all over India and Bangladesh. Quality papers published in these journals are reviewed for doctoral degrees of various universities in India and abroad. The Organization generates awareness in the society against the elderly abuse and also create awareness amongst the elderly for their rights, benefits, and special concessions . Our Organization is always invited in the state and national forum for policy matters and framing the acts and other regulations. Training is yet another prime activity of the Organization. Geriatric care givers of different varieties and duration of training are produced by the Organization in collaboration with NISD. These trainees render services to the elderly at the community level. In recognition to the performance, MSJ&E recognized the Organization as a Center of Excellence for disseminating knowledge in the field of Geriatric care and conferred the Vayoshreshtha Sam man for Institution of knowledge in the year 2006. University of Calcutta and University Sterling, UK, have conferred the responsibility of carrying post-graduate studies in the field of Gerontology and Dementia respectively.
