About the organization

Special features of the organization

AICMED started its journey in 1987 with the primary purpose of spreading adult literacy in West Bengal and beyond. It marked a niche in the said field in the 90s. Subsequently, keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of the underprivileged people who are basically illiterate, it took up in its stride many other significant projects and some of which are still on their way to completion. The following list offers a glimpse of some major projects undertaken by AICMED: , , Most significant adult education project in 1989 to1990 funded by HRD, Govt. of India covering seven district of West Bengal with 510 centres covering 15,257 adult illiterate person. , , Publication of a Bengali Anthology of Neo-literates Chokher Aloy in 1991 with the financial assistance from Department of Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, has been acclaimed as a pioneering endeavour. , , Environmental Impact Studies of Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation Project under WRIDD, Govt. of West Bengal, in 30 designated blocks in West Bengal, funded by World Bank, Consulting Engineering Services (CES) has been successfully completed in 2008-09. , , PRIA/ DFID funded WBCSSP Project in Birbhum district, W.B, started in 2008 to 2009. , , CAPART funded ongoing project on Participatory Approach to Biomass-based Biogas Generation and use by the Rural Poor in 10 villages of WB has been started in 2008. , , CAPART sponsored project on Alternative Ways to Combat Arsenic Pollution of Drinking Water has been successfully carried out in Chapra Block, Nadia, West Bengal during 2003-2005. , , City Level Programme of Action for Street and Working Children (CLPOA) has been started in 2001 and is still continuing in several wards in Kolkata. , , Training programme was organized for women for helping them use Traditional Herbs for Community Health Care and Livestock Rearing at Bakreswar, Birbhum, West Bengal, under the financial patronage from ICPRD, New Delhi, on July 22, 2002 , , Condensed Course for Rural Women was organized at Chapra, Nadia, West Bengal under the auspices of The Central Social Welfare Board during December 1999-November 2001. , , A Writers Workshop had been organized jointly with ICSSR and DAE, Govt. of India, at Viswabharati, Shantiniketan, Birbhum during 2nd-9th October, 1988 , , Since 1999 till to 2011, 6 projects have been completed with the help of Ministry of Environment , Govt. of India effective beneficiaries being 100 of school children 50 farmers 35 rural women and the other persons , , The financial help of DST, Govt. of India a project on Livelihood promotion of Tribal people in Birbhum district of West Bengal is being implemented now since January 2012, in a total Tribal village of 80 family
