Akabpur Sammelani the NGO is serving the rural communities since its establishment in the year 1974 throughout the District of Burdwan and Nadia of West Bengal covering a population of about 75000 in more than 71 villages It has a long standing experience to serve rural communities Several income generating projects are running by the organization with the financial assistance from Govt of India Govt of West Bengal different overseas Govts and different philanthropic organizations in and outside the country A group of educated and trained persons are manning all the projects under the guidance of Prof Dr Biswapati Mandal a renowned Soil Scientist of the country who is also attached with Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya Presently another functional area now added in the feather of the organisaton is to impart quality education to the poor children with an intention to reduce the school leaving no absolutely free of cost The Australian High Commission New Delhi and Toronto Calcutta Foundation have extended their helping hands to develop the infrastructure of the very basic elementary school named Badhodaya Bidyanikatan now running under the management of the organization Now Japan Govt through her Consul General in Kolkata has also come forward to upgrade the school to Class VIII by developing its infrastructure This has increased our hope to reduce the school leaving no of the children of higher classes The organization is also affiliated to West Bengal Pollution Control Board and Nehru Yuba Kendra and carrying out the welfare activities as entrusted by the Board and Nehru Yuba Kendra time to time In recognition of its manifolded outstanding works in the fields of sustainable environment education health non conventional energy sources awareness generation agriculture and its allied areas the organization has been awarded with Environment Excellence Award 2005 by Govt of West Bengal Not only that District Youth Award has also been awarded by Nehru Yuba Kendra in recognition of its competency to work for the cause of rural youths The infrastructural facilities have also been build up step by step by dint of hard work of the functionaries of the organization Now the core areas of activities of the organization are stated below in seriatim , Improvement upliftment of socio economic conditions of poor rural farming communities Improvement of agriculture allied products and village handicrafts industries through extension inter action of new technologies and modern inputs for more agricultural production Improvement and conservation of eco system sustainable environment and bio diversity Plantation of fruit bearing trees on road sides by utilizing fallow lands for better environment and for creating national assets to be used for poverty alleviation cause To reduce the school leaving no for poor children of the area by imparting quality education absolutely free of cost Mother and child health care through universal immunization programs and to help poor working mothers by running Creche centres in the villages and Development of local youth forces in close collaboration with Nehru Yuba Kendra promoting sports and games in rural areas
