South Calcutta Branch, along with its Constituent Branches, is working for the upliftment of women and children. , The main thrust of our Branch is in the following areas: , a) Primary Education , b) Empowerment of women through skill training , c) Awareness Programmes , d) Family and Legal Counseling , Various activities and Projects of A.I.W.C South Calcutta Branch: , 1. The branch runs 2 cr ches for the children of the underprivileged section of the society. They are given nutritious food. Basic education is given to them. They are taught5 clean habits by cr che mothers. Sports, excursion, Independence Day, Republic day and other notable day celebrations are arranged for the children. , 2. Empowerment Programme: , Training in Tailoring, Weaving, Knitting, Computer Basic Course and Beautician Course is given to women. Examination is taken and Certificate awarded at the end of each course. , 3. The Family and Legal Counseling Unit has two trained counselors and an experienced lawyer to advise the beneficiaries. The unit also conducts group meeting and awareness programmes focusing on the Laws for women with special reference Marriage, Divorce, Domestic and property. , 4. Canteen: we have in house canteen which runs successfully. Participate in the exhibitions. Our food of the canteen appreciated by people. , 5. Library: we have a library which has many books of prominent writers. We also have wall magazine. , 6. Cultural: we organize a function for fund raising once a year. Also every month our members participate in cultural programme in our house.
