About Job Profile

Project Management/Coordination

The Chief Technology Officer will manage three broad tasks with our research and technology team members. The first is refining our current ODK based data collection system and PHP & Angular based data management platform to handle a much larger volume of farmer data. The second is moving our current farmer interaction and outreach system from a solely call center based model to also include an app that farmers can use to access agroforestry training information, interact with our programs, get their program and agroforestry related queries answered and access data on the health of their soil and plantations and also track how they use that information to implement on-field activities to improve their farm health. 

Primary Responsibilities include

 

  • Developing new technology and systems that improve operational and measurement efficiencies within the organization.
  • Developing new technology that helps us interact with our farmers better and collect data from them more efficiently.
  • Managing a team of 5-6 developers, GIS analysts and research team members and supporting in building, training and growing our tech team.
  • Adding in new technology stacks and improving efficiencies across our current platforms and systems that use QGIS, ODK, R, Python, Angular, PHP AWS.
  • Building the backend database architecture in either mysQL or postgresQL.
  • Integrating current data collection systems with Zoho that is used for CRM.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Someone who is excited about building technology and data systems for the relatively un-technologized agricultural and forestry sectors.
  • Someone who is able to combine their knowledge of technology with data from socioeconomic and ecological sources to come up with innovative ways of measuring, tracking and documenting things.
  • Someone who has excellent communication skills, is curious and enjoys researching, writing and speaking about field data, ecological restoration and climate change.
  • Someone who is entrepreneurial, self motivated and operates with a growth mindset; someone who is a rapid learner.
  • Someone who doesn’t give up easily – the work we do is full of challenges and requires a fair amount of out-of-the box and jugaad thinking.
  • Someone who functions well in an unstructured, start-up environment.
  • Someone who is passionate about rural development, ecological restoration and fighting climate change.
  • Someone who enjoys working with a diverse set of people and is collaborative.
  • Someone who is comfortable taking on all types of tasks (including the unglamorous and menial ones) and is humble, generous and kind.
  • Someone with a Bachelors Degree and good MS Office & Google Workspace skills.
  • Someone with 6 or more years of experience overall in a similar role; experience working in rural India and building technology for rural India will be a big plus.

 

Other Information:

 

  • The salary band for this position starts at Rs. 24 lakhs per annum. Actual salary will be decided mutually on the basis of experience, skill and fit of the candidate with our team and culture.
