About Opportunity
The New York Times today opened applications for its 2025-26 Times Fellowship, a yearlong work program aimed at cultivating the next generation of journalists for The Times and the news industry at large.
The program encompasses reporters, editors and visual journalists who can deliver breaking news and enterprise assignments. In 2025, for the first time, the program will include an A.I. Initiatives fellowship and a News Video fellowship.
All fellows work full time, in either the newsroom or the Opinion section. They are paid and receive benefits and gain access to training, speakers and a writing coach. The program is set to begin on June 2, 2025.
The most competitive candidates will be journalists who have newsroom or equivalent experience and a track record of strong, independent journalism. Applicants with more than five years of professional journalism experience beyond internships will not be considered.
Since 2019, nearly 200 fellows have contributed to The Times’s mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. Former fellows are working in media organizations around the globe, producing illuminating reporting and storytelling on some of the biggest news events of our time.
