New Delhi, November 3, 2023:In a display of unwavering commitment to philanthropy, the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 has revealed the country's top ten benevolent souls, whose contributions have transcended conventional boundaries. Topping the list, with a staggering donation of INR 2,042 crore in the domain of Arts, Culture & Heritage, is the revered figure, Shiv Nadar, and his family, representing the esteemed HCL Technologies. Following closely behind is the distinguished Azim Premji & family, whose profound dedication to education is reflected in their substantial contribution of INR 1,774 crore. With diverse causes ranging from healthcare to education, the list stands as a testament to the profound impact that these philanthropic leaders continue to foster within the nation.

The top 10 in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 cumulatively donated INR 5,806 crore in FY23, as against a combined donation of INR 3,034 crore in EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022.

With an annual donation of INR 2,042 crore, Shiv Nadar, 78, retained the ‘India’s most generous’ title for the third time in 5 years. He donated INR 5.6 crore per day. The founder-chairman of HCL Technologies has consistently displayed his commitment by contributing 76% more than his donations in FY22. Noteworthy initiatives by the foundation include the SSN Institutions, VidyaGyan, Shiv Nadar University, Shiv Nadar School, Shiksha Initiative, and Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. The Foundation has dedicated a total of US$1.1 billion across its various impactful initiatives.

The Bajaj family, along with Cyrus S Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla, as well as Rohini Nilekani, achieved a significant milestone by securing positions in the top 10 of the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023. They were ranked 6th, 9th, and 10threspectively.

The report finds 119 philanthropists (25 new entrants) who cumulatively donated INR 8,445 crores - up by 59% compared to last year and 200% compared to 3 years ago. Besides, the Indians who have annually donated INR 100 crore and above have grown from just 2 in the 2018 list to 14 in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023.

As much as 16% of donations were observed in Education, the most favoured philanthropic cause. It was followed by Healthcare at 15% and Environment & Sustainability at 9%.

Released jointly by Hurun India and EdelGive, the theEdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023. Is the 10thannual ranking of the most generous individuals in India. This year’s EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 features individuals who have donated INR 5 crore or more during the period under review. The list highlights India’s remarkable givers and captures the growing importance of individual givers in the country's philanthropic landscape towards nation-building. Donations were measured by the value of their cash or cash equivalents from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. This is the tenth year of the list and it follows on from the Hurun India Rich List, a ranking of 1,319 richest individuals in India, released in October 2023 for the twelfth year.
