Pune, July 10, 2023. Mercedes-Benz India has taken a significant step towards building a sustainable infrastructure and enhancing education for girls with the implementation of the 'Green School Transformation Project' in Pune. In collaboration with the NGO 'Yuva Unstoppable', this project aims to provide quality educational facilities across three girls' schools, benefiting around 1,600 underprivileged girl children.
The inauguration of the project took place at Agarkar Kanya Vidyalaya, Gulubai Irani Kanya Vidyalaya, and Sant Jijabai Kanya Vidyalaya in Pune, attended by Ms. Evren Cakabey, Executive Director & CFO of Mercedes-Benz India. The initiative specifically targets students in secondary schools from 5th to 8th grade.
The project will support the Government’s commitment to ‘Swacch Bharat– Swacch Vidyalaya’ by improving the infrastructure related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) requirements in these schools. In addition, the project aims to enhance the learning experience of the students and delivery of quality educational content with the use of Google Future Smart Classroom.
The Google Classroom, which will benefit close to 1000 students, provides a centralized online platform where students can access all their course materials, assignments, and resources in one place. It has an integrated teaching device (K-Yan – a computer-cum-projector with interactivity/smart board, audio & video features) supported by multimedia content aligned to the school curriculum, a shareable device (Chromebooks) powered with Google workspace tools, training of teachers, and onsite technical support.
As a part of its focus on sustainability across the value chain, Mercedes-Benz has also set up rainwater harvesting and solar panel installation under the project. Collectively, the project aims to improve the environmental footprint and empower girls to build a brighter future for themselves and contribute to the society.
