Bosch Ltd achieves CSR target of Rs 37 Crore; spends on skill development, child health

New Delhi, 12 August 2020: A leading supplier of technology and services, Bosch Limited achieved its target of prescribed CSR expenditure by spending Rs 37 crore on several activities including skill development and child health. Average net profit of the company for the past three financial years stood at Rs 1,848 crore, as per the company’s annual report.

The Company’s CSR activities were focused on three core areas including child health hygiene & education, vocational training and neighborhood projects as per the local needs identified by Company’s Plants, says the report.

The Corporate Social Responsibility department at the Company was set up in the year 2013 and it has been running multiple programmes with the help of many like-minded implementing agencies. In its annual report, the company claims that it has enabled Primary Health Centres in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, provides educational support to Government school children like giving practical training in Science subjects, Value Education, teaching English and setting up computer labs.

The Company under its flagship skill development Program, BRIDGE, offers tailor-made short term, job-oriented training, which trains school dropout youth and prepares them for entry-level jobs. The Company has also designed special programs to promote Holistic Village Development and is being run in many clusters around its Plant locations.

During the year under review, the CSR Committee met twice on May 20, 2019, and November 06, 2019.  Its implementing agencies are Karuna Trust, Akhila Bharatha Mahila Seva Samaja (ABMSS), Apollo Clinic, Nashik, Agastya International Foundation ("Agastya"), Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA), Akshaya Patra Foundation, Academy for Creative Teaching Trust (ACT).

Pledges Rs 50 Crore towards fight against Covid-19

In a fight against novel Coronavirus pandemic which has engulfed the whole world, Bosch Limited pledged to contribute Rs 50 crore which also includes donation of Rs 5 crores to the Prime Minister’s PM CARES Fund. The company pledged rest of the amount (Rs 45 crores) towards implementing various community welfare initiatives directly.

When a huge number of migrant labourers were stuck on roads due to sudden lockdown in order to prevent spread of Covid-19, Bosch began to supply cooked meals and ration packets to migrant workers, daily wage laborers, and other needy individuals in an effort to minimize the impact of the nationwide lockdown on the underprivileged, it claims.

 As per the report, "More than 1,00,000 cooked meals were supplied by Bosch across plant locations during the lockdown, period and more than 3,000 needy families were given ration packets with groceries for cooking."

Bosch also donated protective masks and sanitizers to people working in hospitals. In Bengaluru, more than 5,000 FFP2 masks and sanitizers were supplied through the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). In Jaipur, 18,000 pairs of gloves and over 30,000 masks were donated to the Public Health Department along with sanitizers, handwash dispensers, and water bottles. Beyond healthcare workers, Bosch also donated nearly 1,500 hygiene kits to needy families in Nashik, the company has claimed in its annual report.
