TCI Express meets CSR expectations in FY 2020-21; Spends Rs 2 Cr on Education, Sports & Rural Development

New Delhi, 25 January 2022: TCI Express, the company providing express delivery services around the globe, has fulfilled its CSR obligation by spending a sum of Rs 2.05 crore. This money has been spent in the areas of health, education, sports, community, and rural development.

The average net profit of the company as per Section 135(5) of the Act amounted to Rs 102.50 crore. Thus, its prescribed CSR expenditure was calculated as Rs 2.05 crore. CSR obligation of a company is calculated as two percent of its average net profit of the past three years. The total amount spent by TCI Express for the financial year 2020-21 was also Rs 2.05 crore. TCI Express undertakes its CSR initiatives and gets it implemented through Group’s social arms ‘TCI Foundation’ and ‘TCI Charities’ (organization), duly registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882.

The annual report of TCI Express states, “The Company focused on the needs and aspirations of its people and of the larger communities, taking sustainable development initiatives in the areas of health, education, sports, and community development, among others in line with its vision ‘To make a qualitative difference to our society and environment.”

Previously, for the year ending March 31, 2020, the company spent a sum of Rs 1.75 crores on various CSR activities.

TCI’s implementing agency

The company undertakes its CSR program under the aegis of TCI Foundation and TCI Charities (Group Foundation), public trust and registered under the Act. All CSR initiatives are overseen and implemented by the Group Foundation. These organizations are also affiliated with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to implement CSR activities of the Company in compliance with the act read with the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Amendment Rules, 2021.

CSR focus areas of TCI

During the financial year 2020-21, TCI Express primarily focused on the areas of promotion of education and skill development, healthcare, social welfare and rural development, providing sanitation facilities and tailoring skills to tribal women, in line with its policy on CSR.

Virtual Classes: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the education system was threatened. The Government issued notices from time to time to keep schools closed. To cope up with the situation, TCI-DAV Public School organized online classes for its students in the academic year 2020-21 and enabled them to pursue their studies uninterrupted.

Healthcare & Road Safety Program: TCI Foundation was instrumental and successful in the development of HIV control and prevention program named ‘KAVACH’ for truckers in India, which was lately integrated and adopted by the government as National Truckers Program. At present, TCI Foundation operates 15 healthcare centers across India for the marginalized population including families.

Physical Aid to Differently-Abled Persons: TCI Jaipur Foot and Rehabilitation Centre was established in Patna in the year 2008 under the aegis of TCI Foundation. The centre served 830 patients in the FY 2020- 21 and they were provided prosthetics and prosthesis. Due to COVID-19 situation, the centre could not conduct camps in the remote areas; however, three camps were conducted at centre in Patna to facilitate the beneficiaries.

Composition of the CSR Committee

DP Agarwal is the Chairperson of the CSR committee at TCI Express. Other key members are Taruna Singhi and Chander Agarwal.
