About the organization

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) is a leading Indian nature conservation organisation committed to the service of nature. Its mission is to conserve wildlife and its habitat and to work for the welfare of individual wild animals, in partnership with communities and governments. WTI’s team of 150 dedicated professionals work towards achieving its vision of a secure natural heritage of India, in six priority landscapes, knit holistically together by nine key strategies or Big Ideas. Its team includes conservation biologists, scientists, sociologists, wildlife veterinarians, managers, lawyers, finance experts and communication specialists. They all are committed to the common cause of wildlife.

Special features of the organization

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) currently runs 44 projects across India. Few of its important programmes include turning whale shark hunters into staunch protectors in Gujarat, relocating distressed Hoolock gibbons in Arunachal,  restoring mangrove forests in Kerala, preventing elephant deaths due to train-hits in Uttarakhand,  hand-raising rhino calves in Assam, satellite-tagging critically endangered gharials in Bihar, helping bring Manas National Park back from the brink, developing a comprehensive wildlife management plan for Odisha, training frontline forest personnel across 14 states and mapping and securing wildlife corridors across the country.

In this journey, it has achieved several milestones. It has successfully lobbied to make the Whale Shark the first protected fish species of the country. Alongside conservation, it has garnered support of several corporate which includes HCL, ONGC, Tata Trusts, Tata Chemicals, Oracle, Apollo Tyres and others.
