Reimagining sustainable futures: VGGS 2024 seminar, "Towards Net Zero", to be held on January 12th

New Delhi, January 03, 2024: The Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will host a seminar titled "Towards Net Zero" during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024. The seminar, scheduled for 12th January 2024 from 10 am to 1 pm at Seminar Hall 1- Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, aims to address global and national perspectives on Net Zero, decarbonization of the economy, and carbon trading. The announcement was made at a press conference by Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat.

Inspired by the national commitment to combat climate change, the seminar aligns with the Prime Minister's goals outlined at the COP 26 Conference in Glasgow. The focus includes achieving 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity in India by 2030, obtaining 50% of India's energy from renewable sources by 2030, reducing carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030, decreasing carbon intensity below 45% by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

The seminar aims to bring together leaders to share insights on Net Zero, decarbonization, and carbon trading, addressing strategic interventions such as technology upgradation, new technology adoption, finance & investments, policies, institutional setups, governance, capacity building, and confidence.

The inaugural session will feature Shri Bhupendra Yadav, Hon'ble Union Minister, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, along with distinguished guests including Mr. V.K. Saraswat, Member NitiAyog, Mr Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman & CEO, ONGC, and HE. Kimmo Siira, Counsellor, Embassy of Finland.

Following the inaugural session, a movie screening and keynote address by Shri Bhupendra Yadav will be held, followed by two plenary sessions on Decarbonization of Economy and Carbon Trading. The program also envisions Green Credit for various sustainability initiatives.

The seminar will provide a platform for national and foreign delegates, representing academia, industries, industrial associations, multinational organizations, investment & banking institutions, public sector undertakings, scholars, researchers, consultants, non-government, and non-profit organizations to engage in meaningful discussions and share valuable insights. A warm invitation is extended to all concerned stakeholders, industry experts, and policymakers to join this impactful session.
