New Delhi, 08 October, 2021: Software company Birlasoft has spent Rs 5.27 crore on its CSR activities in the financial year 2020-2021, which is 23% over and above its mandatory CSR obligation for the fiscal.
Birlasoft, an arm of the multi-billion-dollar diversified The CK Birla Group, was required to spend an amount of Rs. 4.3 crores towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects for 2020-21. However, during the period, the company has spent Rs 5.27 crores through external agencies on various activities as specified under Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.
The average net profit of the company for the past three years stood at Rs 213.95 crore. Therefore, its mandatory CSR expenditure for the financial year (two percent of average net profits of the past three years), was calculated as Rs 4.3 crore. However, going beyond its CSR obligation, Birlasoft has spent a sum of Rs 5.27 crore, an excess of Rs 97 lakhs.
Out of this total CSR spent amount, the company donated Rs 2.5 crore to the PM CARES fund in the fight against Covid-19. Other areas that got the company’s major attention include, women and child development, education and environment sustainability.

The implementing agencies of Birlasoft include Smile Foundation, CII Foundation, Dhai Akhar Foundation, Seva Sahyog, and IndiaCare.
The CSR committee of the company is led by the chairman Amita Birla. Nandita Gurjar and Anant Talaulicar are the other members of the Committee.

Under these thematic areas, the company has community initiatives for the farmers of Punjab and Haryana called ‘Shodhan’, education and health initiative for children, undergraduates and graduates under project ‘Disha’ and skill development programme for women under project ‘e-vidya’.
