Urivi Vikram Charitable Trust (UVCT) - a national level NGO having functional chapters in five states in India Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Headed by Dr UNB Rao, PhD, IPS (R), it is working for economical and social empowerment of adolescents and young adults in age group 11to 25 years. UVCT is deeply involved in all aspects relating to development of adolescents - from direct intervention by running programs to highlighting issues at policy making levels.The National Centre for Adolescents , a first of its kind in the country, established by the Trust in Dwarka, New Delhi, focuses solely on cares and concerns of adolescents. It already meets the pressing needs of adolescents by providing Psychological Counseling & Career Guidance /Workshops & Talk-shows/Seminars/ Competitions, all oriented at empowering and enabling them. Other Centers of UVCT routinely run our acclaimed programs Shakti, Sahara, Parivartan, and Prerna etc.Project Prerna takes care of the needs of Career Guidance and Shakti provides Life Skills Eduction to underacheivers and marginalized. Shakti program was also accepted by the UN Inter Agencies Working Group July 2003 as basis for their program on Life Skills for Health Promotion of out-of-school adolescents. , During the last 15 years, the Trust succeeded in counseling more than 60,000 schooled children, and assisting about 6000 out of school children, out of which about 60 percent could be put into gainful employment. , The National Centre for Adolescents is fast becoming a hub of activities related to adolescents. The National Centre played host to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Hon ble Former President, who participated in our Foundation Day celebrations on 09 September 2008. Another eventful happening was the 2nd Hum Kishore Festival - a five day Annual Meet at UVNAC in Dwarka, which we organized from 14-18 Jan 2009. The festival provided competitions in 13 disciplines participated by 19 schools. Winning Schools were awarded glittering Memorial Rolling Trophies and children got a Replica or Gold Medal and Runners-up received Silver Medals. , The Trust held a National Meet in July 1999, on the theme Towards a Policy for Young Adults . The outcome of the meet was brought-out into an advocacy document for National Policy for Young Adults , which prompted the Planning Commission of India to constitute a Study Group that brought out a Report on Adolescents (June 2001). The Min. of Youth Affairs and Sports has since launched the Scheme for Development and empowerment of Adolescents during the current 10th Five Year Plan. UVCT deserves to be credited for finding a due place to Adolescents in the scheme of Indian Planning. , The Trust held yet another National Meet in July, 2005, on theme Adolescents : Vision 2020 in order draw the attention of the policy makers and relevant segments of the society about the challenges being faced by and opportunities available for the adolescents , in our endeavors to make India a Super Power by year 2020. , The Trust brought out books titled Teenage Blues (in English) and Kishoron Key Komal Duniya (in Hindi) for the guidance of Parents, Teachers and Counselors to have a proper understanding of teenagers and their actions. Yet another publication of the Trust is Adolescent Concerns through Own Eyes .
