Tamilnadu Pengal Nala Sangam

Tamil Nadu Pengal Nala Sangam, Started in 1954 is a welfare organization working for the upliftment of disadvantaged women and children. The Sangam run by a small team of dedicated women from its inception has a number of service activities to its credit. Its aims and objectives centres around the upliftment of poor and needy girl children and deserted old women both economically and socially. Kamalamma Balakrishnan Old Age Home accommodates more than fifty elderly women, all above 60 years of age. To it is associated a well equipped hospice ready to take care of the sick poor women. Another recently added unit, adjacent to the Old Age Home is Palliative Care Unit with all modern facilities to admit terminally sick patients. The objective is to help them to live without pain in their last stage. The unit for the poor girl children, named Destitute Children Home consists of 150 inmates enjoying free boarding and lodging. They are attending either M.M. Primary School or Annai Hr.Sec.School, both units of Annai Ashram. The schools together has a strength of nearly 1000 boys and girls, children of daily wage earners. For tiny tots ranging 0-6 of below poverty line families we have Rajiv Gandhi National Cr che Scheme where 150 children have their pre-primary training. The Sangam also runs a mini computer centre with 12 computers and a tailoring unit. Children above 15 are given free coaching in these two job oriented sections. , , One of the projects undertaken by the Sangam was sponsored by Womankind World Wide London to bring about all round personality Development in women. , , The Institution has won the prestigious The Best Institution Award in 1997 from Government of Tamilnadu. In addition to the award of 1997, the Sangam won the Best Institution Award in 2008 from Tamil Nadu Government, for the best maintenance of our Old Age Home. Anyone and everyone who steps into the portals of the Sangam has only words of appreciation for the work that is going on in the Campus. , , The project now the Sangam envisages is to increase inmates of our Kamalamma Balakrishnan Old Age Home to one hundred.
