The Background , 1. Bishnupriya Manipuri is one of the two primary clans of Manipuri, the other being the Meitei Manipuri. Bishnupriya Manipuries believe that during the ancient days, their forefathers, fled from the then princely state of Manipur, for safe shelter to the neighboring states in small groups. Despite displaced, they maintained their rich cultural heritage, in their splintered settlements. To bring the Cultural Revolution, the novel laureate Rabindranath Thakur picked a number of cultural artistes of this community as Instructors in Manipuri dance at Shanti Niketan, It includes (a) Guru Rajkumar Senarik Singha (b) Guru Mahim Chandra Singha (c) Guru Bihari Singha (d) Guru Nileswar Mukherjee (e) Pt. Nila Madhab Singha and (f) Guru Bipin Singha. The world famous Manipuri dancer Javeri Sisters and Dr. Tamanna Rehaman are nurtured by Guru Bipin Singha. The name of Professor Guru Banamali Sinha (Retd), Bhatkhande Nrittya Kala Academy Lucknow, comes foremost, among the world famous cultural artistes of Bishnupriya Manipuri. , 2. With population of not even a lac, the backward, microscopic minority community Bishnupriya Manipuri remained unnoticed and unattended even after seventy years of our Independence. The world-class culture, language, dresses & literature of the community is pacing rapidly towards its extinct. , Formation of SCSBM , 3. Alarmed by the rapid pace at which the community of Bishnupriya Manipuri is advancing towards its ultimate extinction, the Socio Cultural Society of Bishnupriya Manipuri (SCSBM) was formed in a General Meeting of the people of Bishnupriya Manipuri at Agartala, Tripura, on 29 April 2012. , Major Activities , 4. In the Second Annual Function two days Seminar cum Cultural Function was organized on 14th and 15th Feb 2015. The Honorable Chief Minister and the Honorable Cultural Minister, Government of Tripura attended the function. , 5. The Cultural Institute of Bishnupriya Manipuri (CIBM) inaugurated at Agartala by Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, the Honorable Mayor, Agartala Municipal Corporation on 14th Feb 2015. , 6. The Unique and Maiden Cultural Procession of Bishnupriya Manipuri marched through the main roads of Agartala, on 15th Feb 2015. , 7. The Annual souvenir of SCSBM The Heritage of Bishnupriya Manipuri was released by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tripura on 15th Feb 2015. , 8. The web-site of SCSBM www.scsbm.org was launched by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tripura on 15th Feb 2015. , 9. The title of Guru conferred to four eminent cultural artistes of different disciplines of the community of Bishnupriya Manipuri. , 10. A warm Reception to Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha, Judge, High Court Division of Supreme Court of Republic of Bangladesh, was given on 22 March 2015. , 11. A Seminar of Cultural Artistes of Bishnupriya Manipuri was conducted on 20th September 2015. Among others Sri R Ganguly, Director Sangeet Natak Academy North East Centre, Agartala was present in the function. , 12. Established five (05) Branch Offices at Bishnupriya Manipuri populated areas. , 13. The Third Annual Function held on 13 March 2016. , 14.
