Special features of the organization

Cluny Abhaya Illam is a Home for the wandering mentally ill, at Thurinjipoondy. The home is run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny. We focus our care to the wandering mentally ill who are abandoned by the family members and the society. We admit them to our home with the help of our local police station , village leaders and social workers. We give them food shelter and clothing. We register them to the Psychiatric Department at Christian Medical College, Vellore and the Gov. Medical Collage Villupuram. we give them Treatment, Counseling, Rehabilitation and we train them for job opportunities like, Driving, Tailoring, Cooking, Gardening, Poultry and Rabbit Farm. We place them at work under our supervision and care. When their mental condition is stable and they are able to give their address we reunite them to their loved ones. When they are discharged we keep regular follow up to ensure regular medication. We teach the family about the Importance of regular medication in the case of Mentally Ill.
