Special features of the organization
SWAD emerged from the humanitarian and women empowerment activities by some dedicated women in the rural area of Puri district, Orissa in the year 1989. It got its legal entity in the year 1992. Since its inception it has been working in the field of Socio-Economic development of marginalized community, women empowerment, Disaster Preparedness & Management program, Livelihood promotion, Environment protection & Biodiversity conservation and Gender equity. , Presently the swad is working in 43 Grampanchayats of two Blocks namely Satyabadi & Gop Block of Puri District. SWAD focused on the [1] Community Capacity Building, [2] Institution Building, [3] Networking and Linkage, [4] Advocacy & Lobby. Followings are some the Achievement of SWAD , By the initiation of swad 220 Self Help Groups have been formed and strengthened, 5 cluster level federation of Women Self Help Group formed, 1 Women Self Help Cooperative established in Satyabadi block of Puri District. , 107 SHGs were linked up in different Govt. scheme like sgsy, Revolving fund etc. , 1960 Women are enhancing their skill and knowledge and getting income of Rs.300 to Rs.3000 per month. , 32 women atrocities case solved. , 75 Village Disaster Management Committee have formed and enhance their capacity to manage Disaster in their village, because natural disaster like flood, cyclone and water logging is a recurrent phenomenon of this area. , 300 volunteer were develop their skills and mobilized to work for their locality. , With the support of Concern world wide India, swad constructed 1 Flood Shelter, 5 Seed cum Grain bank, 3 mound to protect the human and livestock from flood. , Disaster fund generated in 75 villages and stock pilled in 15 village to manage disaster, because community is the first responder of any disaster. , By the active involvement of the community and support from different funding agencies like Oxfam g.b, Concern Worldwide, Toyota Motor Corporation, swad taken up plantation in a massive scale. At least 1.5 lakhs plants has been planted in both household and community level. , Unused water logged land became productive. 6 pond renovated & 5 deep bore well installed in order to manage waterlogged land. , SWAD has received the PRAKRUTI MITRA award for the year 2008-2009 by the chief minister of Orissa for its greater contribution towards Environment promotional activities in Satyabadi block of Puri district. , 100 Village Action Group [VAG] and 1 Block level Action Group is there to lobby and advocacy on the issues and rights.
