SOCIETY FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND FOREST ECOLOGY

Facilitate the process, which enable the people to adopt sustainable, environment friendly, equitable and cost effective livelihood systems. Achievements are - SAFE has worked with 1892 ground water user families and equipped 2483 ground water user farmers with necessary data, skills and knowledge to manage ground water resources available to them in sustainable manner. Farmer training programs on different PHM modules. Formation of community based organization at Hydological Unit Level and at habitation level - Ground Water Management Committees. Data collection and monitoring by farmers. Display an dissemination of data at village level. Training in sustainable agriculture practices and water saving technics. Organizing year long farmer schools. Organizing CWB workshops at the end of Kharif. Crop plans and adoption. Capacity building and women participation in ground water management. Functional linkages between CBOs and line department. Complete study on local and scientific knowledge on impacts of climate variability, change on natural resources in Andhra Pradesh. Local monitoring system of climate variability and its impacts operation in at least 9 CBOs in pilot HUs collecting data on at least 3 key indicators. CBOs with capacities to integrate climate variability adaptation measures in Sustainable Land and Water Management (SLWM). Farmers acquire skills in managing climate variability and testing adaptation technologies in farming systems of alternative adaptation technologies and practices in SLWM. Project lessons, results and product documents disseminated. In addition SAFE is also actively involved in organic agriculture for sustainable livelihood, bio-diversity of germ plasm conservation, seed multiplication with traditional technologies, market linkages, medicinal plants conservation.
