Special features of the organization

For 32 years the organisation has innovated green technologies in shelter, water and energy for creating sustainable green livelihoods. With more than 20 such technology solutions Development Alternatives has created around 1 million livelihoods benefiting over 5 million people. DA has pioneered mitigation and adaptation measures for rural communities by providing environmental solutions for climatic change. It works with the government at the central level and in several states such as Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. It has also delivered its green technologies in Sri Lanka, Nepal Bangladesh and parts of Africa. , Major achievements of Development Alternatives include: , Development Alternatives was appointed as the technical agency to support and strengthen the State Knowledge Management Portal for Climate Change in Madhya Pradesh. , At the National level, DA played a leading role in strengthening the National Steering Committee of Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) resulting in active engagement of members to develop perspectives on climate finance, low carbon pathways for growth and India s priorities for COP20 at Lima, Peru. , The work of Development Alternatives Group in the year 2014-15 reached out to over 700,000 people with information, capacities and services, generating over USD seven million worth economic transactions in local economies and preventing over 500,000 million to9nnes of carbon emissions through cleaner production process. , According to the Global Go to Think Tanks Rankings report 2015, issued by the University of Pennsylvania s International Relations Program DA is ranked 135th among the Top 175 best think tanks in the world. An exemplifying achievement for DA has been that out of 6846 Think Tanks worldwide, it has been recognized in a total of 15 categories out of 52. , Some of the other key achievements of DA in year 2014-15 are: , o 30% increase in agri-productivity , o 6800 hectares of land managed , o 800 million litres of water conserved , o 740,660 tonnes of waste utilized , o 407,700 kWh green electricity generated , o 1.4 million tonnes of top soil conserved , o 4800 people organized into Common Interest Groups , o 18,250 people educated on local governance issues , o Knowledge and capacities of 410 professionals and public officials enhanced , o 314,800 people accessed WASH services , o 5350 people access clean energy , o 60,000 women made literate , o 6423 people trained on employability and vocational skills
