Shramik Bharti is a not-for-profit, grass root development organization registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860; Shramik Bharti s activities are primarily aimed at eradicating poverty with particular emphasis on empowering women and disadvantaged communities. Established in 1986, Shramik Bharti is presently working with 125 slums and rural communities in 13 development blocks of Kanpur and Kanpur Dehat districts of Uttar Pradesh with a direct reach to more than 50,000 families. , , Mission , Working for the empowerment of poor and under privileged, with special focus on women and children, Shramik Bharti facilities and fosters people s democratic institutions. , , Committed to a human development approach, Shramik Bharti facilitates to enlarge people s choices by assisting them in development of their capabilities and preparing them to have better control over their lives. , , Shramik Bharti is, therefore, a way of seeing and respecting people. Shramik Bharti s programmes grow out of that respect and faith in idea of a truly democratic society, free from exploitations. , , Operational Strategy , Guided by the mission, Shramik Bharti follows the following operational strategy: , Organising the community around socially relevant issues. , Developing their capacities for addressing the developmental issues and managing them. , Enabling access to services and provisions being provided by the state and market. , Aggregating the community based groups and facilitating them to emerge as community based organisations for continuing the interventions initiated by Shramik Bharti. , , Acheivements: , Shramik Bharti has promoted 1101 SHGs having 15405 members. , Shramik Bharti has formed 4 federations of SHGs. These federations are self managed and self sustainable. , Shramik Bharti has reclaimed 11,433 hectares of sodic land benefiting 30,355 small & marginal farmers. , Shramik Bharti has reclaimed sodic land of 205 small & marginal farmers by low cost biological method. , Promoted eri-silk rearing with 632 farmers in ravines of Yamuna. Cocoon produced is converted into yarn by two producer groups and the yarn is converted into fabric at the local level. , 585 small & marginal farmers have adopted Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture practices. , A group of 30 weavers in Garh have formed a producer society. Shramik Bharti has provided support for improving looms. Shramik Bharti is providing design and marketing support. , 300 families of equine owners have been organised in equine welfare groups for better care of their animals and improved income. , Conducted Family Planning education and services in a population of 600,000. , Promotion of Home Based Life Saving Skills for Safe Motherhood in a population of 350,000 in Kanpur Dehat. , Created HIV/AIDS awareness in a population of 350,000 population. , Sponsored 50 destitute elderly persons and distributing monthly ration, clothes, medical help on a regular basis since 1998. , Conducted Voter Awareness Campaign for Panchayat elections in 2005 in 135 panchayats. , Conducted training of elected panchayat leaders, ward members and community leaders on functioning of Panchayat Institutions.
