Special features of the organization
Seva Mandir was established in 1968 by Dr Mohan Sinha Mehta, an educationist from Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. It operates in the southern part of Rajasthan. The work area encompasses 626 villages and 56 Urban Settlements. Majority of these villages are located in Udaipur and some in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. In total the organization reaches out to around 70,000 households, influencing the lives of approximately 360,000 persons. To carry out the various development activities, Seva Mandirs work spans several key programmes, including: (1) village institutions; (2) natural resource development; (3) womens empowerment; (4) early child care and development; (5) health; (6) education; and (7) the Peoples Management School. , , After a journey of 4 decades, the organization has been able to set up 566 Village Development Funds and the total volume of funds held by village institutions is more than Rs. 25,172,379. These Funds are being managed by democratically elected Village Development Committees. In Natural Resource Management Programme, Seva Mandir has till date helped village communities plant and protect 10391 hectares of private lands and 2869. 25 hectares of common lands under various afforestation & pastureland development programs. It has also supported work on the protection, plantation and management of more than 1748 hectares of forestland under the Joint Forest Management scheme, in collaboration with the Forest Department. Watershed development work has been completed on 12171 hectares of land. Seva Mandir has also constructed 77 masonry anicuts (water harvesting structures) and helped to establish 53 community managed lift irrigation systems. , , Seva Mandir runs 200 Non Formal Education Centres reaching out to more than 5000 children; 203 Balwadis with enrolment of 4, 354 children, and 2 referral hospitals. 301 Traditional Birth Attendants provide child delivery, health, and nutritional services to the community and help to generate awareness on a range of health issues including diseases, immunization. Also there are 559 womens self help groups (SHGs) with membership of more than 10, 000 women. , , The current Chief Executive of Seva Mandir Ms. Neelima Khetan has been conferred upon by various awards of National Recognition.
