SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE SOCIETY , Servants Of the People Society( SOPS),was founded by Lala Lajpat Rai in 1921 at Lahore, which was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on 9th November 1921.After the Partition of the country,The society was shifted to Delhi and operating since then at Lajpat Bhawan, Lajpat Nagar New Delhi.The object of the society is to enlist and train national missionaries for the service of the motherland .It is their duty to work for the educational, cultural, social, economic & political advancement of the country.The functions of the head office of the Society are to discuss and decide about the policies and programmes of the society.It also controls the finance and properties of the society including its branches/centres located at different places in the country.At present the number of branches/centres is 19. , Educational Activities- , Schools from Balvadis to Senior secondary level at Delhi,Allahabad,Kanpur,Hoshiarpur,Dhudike,Fatehgarh and Vadodra , Cultural Activities- , Auditorium,Community halls and Cultural activitiesCentres at Delhi,Kanpur, Chandigarh, Ahemedabad, Allahabad and Kanpur.Some centres also conduct Training classes in Music,Dance and Painting.Rajrishi Tandon Sangeet evam Kala Vidyalaya,Allahabad was established in1963,teaching of Sangeet and Damce facilities are provided in this Vidyalaya up to Graduate level. , Social Activities- , r Medical Yoga centres at Delhi,Allahabad ,Hoshiarpur,Vadodra and Bombay. , Working women s hostel at ahemedabad and Abohar, Elders home at Delhi. , Hostel of S C/ST at Meerut. , LIBRARIES AND READING ROOMS at Dehi,Chandigarh,Dhundike , Vadodra,Allahabad and Abohar. , P.D.T. Library at Lajpat Bhawan,New Delhi has more than 60,000 books on Religion,Culture, Science ,Biographies ,History ,Management, Fiction (hindi and English) Philosophy etc.It gets 15 Daily Newspapers in Hindi,English,Urdu and Malyalam.It has a separate section for Children, Which is very popular during the summer Vacation. The Newspaper reading room is free for all. , Urban and Rural Development , Delhi branch has adopted a cluster of five villages near Delhi at Mandi Village and proceeding speedily to establish a model rural development centre. , Economic Activities- , Relief and Rehabitilation Centres at Delhi,Cuttack&Ahemedabad, , Tailoring Training Centres at Delhi and Hoshiarpur. , Typing Training Centre at Ahemedabad. , Political Actiities- , Talks,Seminar,Panel Panel Discussions etc are held from time to time. , South Asian Fraternity is an important constituent of the Servants of the People Society.To develop good neighbourly relationship on peopleto people basis among the countries of South Asia. Youth Camps are organized at Delhi,Jwalamukhi,Hyderabad,Dimapur,Khedi,Amritsar,Anandwan(Head office of baba Amte)and Dhudike.
