Special features of the organization
Arasan Eye hospital was established in the year 1997 with the aim of providing affordable eye care for all. In the year 2000 we established our charitable wing Save Sight Foundation . Through this unit we conduct free eye camps . So far we have done 5934 free eye camps. We have screened 459231 patients and have done 101408 free surgeries. Through the trust we have also established an Eye bank in 2001. Arasan Eye bank has collected 11545 eyes and 635 Keratoplasties so far. , In collaboration with Rotary International Dr.VPS has conducted several mega eye camps in Ghana, West Africa. The Governments of Mali and Zimbabwe have MOU with Arasan for training their doctors. , On invitation from the Chattisgarh Government the trust conducted Mega eye camps in the tribal belt of Dhandewada District in 2009. , We also conduct Cataract surgery training program in both SICS and Phaco from 2003 onwards. So far 420 Indian doctors and 163 International doctors have benefitted from this course. As part of VISION 2020, The Right to Sight , major international efforts will be made in areas such as information and resource mobilization, joint planning and building national capacity through human resource development and transfer of appropriate technologies to developing countries. The trust is deeply involved in this initiative. , Arasan Eye Hospital is accredited by National Board of Examinations to conduct their DNB course from 2007. So far six DNB candidates have passed out. Every year 4 students are enrolled in the course. Apart from this 2 candidates are taken as fellows in General ophthalmology. The students are taught in the clinical discipline by trained faculty . At present we have eleven DNB residents in our institution. , In Collaboration with Bharathiyar University the trust offers Advanced Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Nursing . Under this scheme 25 girls from rural pockets of Tamilnadu are admitted . They are given free education , boarding and Lodging. So far 65 girls have benefitted. , Diabetic Eye screening camps , School screening camps and Glaucoma awareness camps are also conducted by the trust. , In appreciation of our work the Tamilnadu Ophthalmic Association awarded the prestigious Dr.G. Venkatasamy Community Ophthalmology Oration award in 2010. , In 2016 the Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India (ACOIN)gave the Mrs. Sushila Biswal Memorial ACOIN Award , 2015 at Trichy.
