Rhythms of Manipur occupies a unique position in the world of instrumental music in the region specilising in traditional orchestral music, the company lends itself to composing orchestral pieces from the folklore of Manipur. , The company created history in the state by introducing half a dozen of ladies Pena players in 1994.The company which started in 1985 as a little group of music players emerged as one of the largest and active music company in the region in 1995 after the successful presentation of Heirangkhoinida traditional orchestral ensemble based on Pena music with the support of Department of Culture,Government of India.Since then the company has not looking back and succesfully performed over hundreds of performances before highly appreciated audience in various parts of the country.Some of the leading musicians of the company also visited various countries as member of the Indian cultural delegations. , A good numbers of dedicated young and talented musicians and researchers comprise the compnay.It also has a long standing association with eminent film, music and theatre directors like A.Syam Sharma,N.Tiken Singh,Dr.Lokendra Arambam. , Registered in 1987 as non-profit, non political organisation, the company is supported by the Ministry of Culture,New Delhi since 1994-95 in various art projects and programmes and has a predominantly cultural profile. , The Rhythms of Manipur also scored the music of various ballets, dance dramas and films in the state including the children film PAARI made by celebrated film maker Aribam Syam Sharma for the Children Film Society of India which was featured in various international film festivals.The ballet of Maniuri Jagoi Marup Engallei which was awarded as the Best Ballet at the 3rd National Ballet Festival organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi in 1991 also scored by Rhythms of Manipur s orchestra. , Actively involved in the National Theatre Festivals at Bangalore,New Delhi,Kolkota,Kochi in 1999 and 2000 alongwith the Forum For Laboratory Theatres of Manipur s play Child of the North East directed by Dr.Lokendra Arambam. , In 2002 March performed Moirang Sai Opera at the Bharmaputra river in connection of the 50 years of Ford Foundation in India.Sucessfuly organised four days Exhibition cum Festival of Indigenous Musicial Instruments of Manipur with the support of Department of Culture.Government of India in 2002. , The year 2007 is one of the memorable year for Rhythms of Manipur, the fast learners and improviser s musicians of the Rhythms with an attempt to take Manipuri music to a globally acceptable position introduced a modified Pena named as Pennao three string musicial instrument in the presence of a host of cultural luminaries and royal court authorities of the State. , Among many concert tours made by the Rhythms of Manipur during the last twentyfour years of its existance mentioned may be made of its participatation in the Best of Music from North East held at Kohima,Nagaland in connection with 50 years of Indian Independence organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre(NEZCC)Dimapur in 1998,Festival of Manipur,Kolkota organised by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre(EZCC)Kolkota in 2003,Two day Choral Singing and Music Festival held at Guwahati organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre(NEZCC) in 2009,Fusion 1 held at Veethi Sankul auditorium,Bhopal organised by the Indira Gandhi Rastriya Manav Sangrahalaya in 2009. , Rhythms of Manipur also actively involved in the annual Manipur Tourism Festival organised by the State Tourism Department with the support of Ministry of Tourism since 2008.
