PURI URBAN LEPROSY PROJECT

Puri Urban Leprosy project started its work in leprosy control at Puri Town in 1981 in the land of Lord Jagannath. The project started by total sponsorship of Germany Leprosy Relief Association (GLRA), Germany with colaboration of State Govt. Odisha. The project develops its infrasture and personnel to undertake various health oriented programmes in addition to the treatment of leprosy cases. The project has undertaken with different health awareness programme (IEC IPC) for removal of social stigma and multi functional socio-economic rehabilitation programme to bring the patient back to the main stream of society from 31.07.2003 the project involved in RNTCP and working on DMC in Puri town. Sinc 1981 till date 8578 leprosy cases are cured and PR Rate come down to 0.89 by the end of Sept 2012 in comparision to PR Rate 262 at the inseption of MDT. Likewise defermity rate reduced to 0.7 child rate reduced to 5.5 new case detection rate reduced to 17.94. By continious persurance endevour of untiring services of the services of the staff the project stood as one of the best NGO of the district. Its ork was well recognised by Govt. of India and SET Grant has been allowed for the project from 2002-03 onwards.
