Special features of the organization
The activities of PIDT are divided into 5 major heads. These are:1) Awareness Generation, Education and Training for Transformation - Peoples Institute for Development and Training (PIDT) conducts A, B and C level (class III, V and VIII) examinations under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and runs formal Anandalaya Public School. , 2) Sustainable Ecology through Environmental Regeneration, Health and Nutrition- PIDT Lokshala, Jagdishpur, District Deoghar conducts anganwadi workers and anganwadi sahaikas training. Homeopathy and ayurvedic clinics are run. The villagers are being asked to plant herbal plants for household remedies. Drinking water sources are treated with bleaching powder. Women are encouraged to take up kitchen gardening for better nutrition for self and the family. Ambulance service takes critical patients to nearby hospitals. A number of women have taken hand pump mechanic training and are repairing village hand pumps when they go out of order. In Deoghar, Jharkhand and Surguja, Chhattisgarh PIDT is working among the tribals for their upliftment through formation of their Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), has made efforts to protect forest wealth and at the same time helped them preserve their culture and traditions. , 3) Protection and Regeneration of Cultural Skills and Knowledge Systems - encouragement is being given to crafts, traditional skills and knowledge base of the rural communities and awareness is being generated about the cultural and gender issues to encourage womens groups for economic development. Anandalaya School of Music is imparting training in various forms of music. Effort is being made to preserve various art forms like traditional songs, dances and recipes. National and international days like International Volunteers Day (December 5), International Womens Day (March 8), Independence Day, Republic Day, Childrens Day etc are celebrated. , 4) Self-Reliant Livelihood Enhancement - Village Development Committees (VDCs) in 3 PIDT regions have been converted into SHGs and they have become confident in the process of account-keeping, inter-lending and regular savings. They have taken up a number of income-generating activities. In all, 141 SHGs, most of them womens SHGs, have been formed. A significant number of them have received First, Second and Third grading. , 5) Research and Advocacy for Peace, Femininity and Sustainability - Under this program, action research projects are taken up. For advocacy with the Government and policy-makers PIDT collaborates with like-minded organizations on issues like womens empowerment, education of the deprived sections of the society and social upliftment. It organizes programs on these issues and participates in the programs organized by other organizations nationally and internationally.
