Special features of the organization

Lasya is a 16-year old trust dedicated solely towards the preservation, propagation and promotion of Indian Classical Dance and the Indian Theatre arts. , Lasya runs a one-of-its-kind Kathak Diploma, affiliated to the department of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension Work of the S.N.D.T. Women s University. The module contains a 3-year old Diploma and a 2-year Advanced Diploma in Dance (Kathak). , Secondly, Lasya also runs many certificate courses (affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal) and Scholarship programs (affiliated to the N.C.E.R.T.). , , Lasya regularly conducts seminars, symposiums, theatre workshops and interactive discussions for its students and all other dance students and enthusiasts all over the metropolis. , We frequently organize interactive lecture-demonstrations and workshops by many guest dignitaries from the Classical Fine Art field viz. authors, poets, cultural historians, scholars, dance Guru-s etc. who share their experiences and knowledge with the students. , Lasya annually conducts three major dance and music festivals , , YATRA This is the national festival of choreography, organized by Lasya; that celebrates International Dance Day[29th April]- as declared by the U.N.E.S.C.O. , Here the Guru-s, stalwarts and reputed choreographers of the Indian Classical Dance field; are invited by Lasya from all corners of the nation; to present their choicest and exquisite choreographic works to the Mumbai audiences. , Rajashree Shirke has since 2003 been organizing the Yatra festival. Yatra, which means journey features established and upcoming talent from different corners of India and different dance styles on a common platform. The intension is to feature Group Choreography which allows the classical dance movement to flourish as well as bring together dancers from all over the country in a spirit of friendship and togetherness. , , MADHURANG This is another festival of performing arts in remembrance of our dear beloved Late Guru Madhurita Sarang. , Lasya organizes this Indian Classical Music & Dance Festival on the eve of her death anniversary. Since the year 2005, Lasya has been organizing a wide range of performances of dancers, instrumentalists and vocalists who have performed at this festival. This has, over the years, become an important dais for many up-coming artists and new talent in the city. , , SOPAAN MAHOTSAV- A festival of Theatre, Music and Theatre-Dance; begun since 2016. This festival is for creating, showcasing and acknowledging new and experimental theatrical endeavours by Lasya and other theatre-bodies of Mumbai and India in general. That way, the students of Dance, Theatre and Music can have a holistic inter-relative perspective of Theatre and Music and dance and how these disciples weave together originally to bring back the ancient concept of total theatre . , Lasya also has a strong functional Dance Repertory of its own trained-professional dancers who regularly perform under the Lasya banner and are active in all of Lasya s cultural endeavours. , Lasya also has a social awareness wing called Lasya Sankalp that creates programs, workshops and teaches Indian Classical Dance, Folk Dance and Theatre to the under-privileged girls from the Municipal Schools of Suburban Mumbai; which includes regular training sessions of dance, theatre and children s theatre plays.
