Kushtarog Niwaran Samiti, Shantivan was established in 1952. The centre of its activities is Shantivan near Nere in Panvel taluka of Raigad district in Maharashtra 55 kms. from Mumbai. Its land admeasured 122 acres land, comprising 70 acres received as grant from the Government of Maharashtra and 52 acres land acquired by purchase from surrounding farmers. , , The Institution engaged in Survey, Eradication and Treatment work (SET from 1980) in the rural area of Panvel taluka, which is done through surveys by leprosy technicians. These para-medical workers provide treatment to diagnosed patients at 9 centres while the patients continue to live with their families. The Samiti runs a 40 beded hospital at Shantivan under the superintendence of a qualified Medical Officer. By 31st March 2013 all the 185 villages in Panvel taluka had been surveyed. During the last 30 years we had detected more than 10000 leprosy patients and of which more than 10,000 patients have been cured so far. There is Leprosy Clinic & Hospital at Shantivan, Shelter for rehabilitated ex-leprosy patients.
