KOSHIKA(R) (Kota Shivaram Karanth) Cultural organization dedicated to children theatre Started in the year 1998 based in cherkadi village, 20 km away from central Udupi. The organisations main objective is to foster theatre-in-education, a model now gaining widespread popularity across the world, through working with children of a range of age groups and backgrounds. , The Organization aims at spreading education through the medium of theatre through means such as performances that juxtapose modern issues with traditional forms of presentation, workshops and discussions. The company has been concerned with spreading education through theatre and devising performances for children for many years through activities such as organizing educational programs in school, creating plays with children and conducting workshops. , With over 150 interactive theatre performances since from 15 years Koshika helped hundreds of childrens to discover themselves and being confident to showcase themselves. Most important program of Koshika is organising summer camps called Vasantha shibira every year. The children from various villages around Cherkadi participate in this one month long camp. The organization collects no fee from the participants nor any financial aid from government along with providing a free afternoon meal. Educating village community against superstition, alcohol and scholarships to poor students are Koshikas other activities. , Koshika perform more than 20 shows in a year on an average and reach out to more than 4000 audiences beyond the boundaries of age, financial and social status in the states like Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu. Our experiments in theatre have received overwhelming responses from theatre lovers and critics alike.
