Special features of the organization

Itihaas Vision , To bring into the realm of structured education our tangible and intangible heritage, traditions and legacy as sources of learning. To ensure that every child becomes a rightful inheritor of her past and can apply collective knowledge to problems faced by society , , Mission , To accomplish our vision, Itihaas partners with schools: mentors, parent bodies, government and non government agencies and civil society. At the core of every partnership is the Itihaas learner, the child , , Objective , Making heritage education accessible to the entire student population of the country by steadily increasing our outreach, adding programmes suitable for the countrys diverse demographic profile. , , Itihaas Activities and Achivements , , 1. Itihaas Study Tours , , The flagship programme at Itihaas is to conduct study tours for school going children and thereby make them active participants in the process of social change and heritage conservation. , , 2. Anveshan, Itihaas Young Writers Forum , , This is to encourage children to identify the carriers of legacy from their neighborhood or city and write about them. The children are motivated to keep their research going round the year so that their entry is not merely a social science project, but a learning experience all the way. One of the criteria of participation is that the entry has to be a collective effort of a team, supervised by a mentor to promote peer learning and absorbing values from the community. , , 3. Itihaas for educators , , We organize annual programmes : one for school teachers from all over india, with logistic support from schools and the other for a group of teachers and principals from Australia , , 4. Itihaas Intensive Training Programmes , , The training workshops are organized twice a year and run over 2 days to one week. Each one includes performance appraisal, discussion of the plans ahead and specialized sessions for training of the staff, volunteers, freelance contributors with focus on skill enhancement. A part of the session is done outdoors while the rest is in an enclosed space. , , 5. Itihaas Bridging Gaps Initiative , , Under this scheme, we conduct study tours and interactive programmes with students from unprivileged sections of society. In another scheme run under this programme, we facilitate income generation for the girls at the St. Micheals Orphanage. They cater for the students on the Itihaas Study tours and all the proceeds for the meals are put to the welfare for the orphanage. , , 6. Itihaas Young Walker Programme , , This programme is instituted in order to cater to the needs and learning capabilities of the young ones (3+ to 10 years of age). The activities, study tour programmes etc are so designed that these take into account minute understanding of cognitive development that takes place in this phase. The programme has special features designed to benefit parents and teachers as well. , , 7. Itihaas Mela , , Itihaas works across the country to revive traditional games and toys, with a view to save them from extinction. We also conduct workshops to develop indigenous games, which employ traditional techniques of dying and coloring, wood craft and even the how to domesticate and train pigeons,parrots etc.
