Initially Public Awareness activities such as seminars and public lectures were instituted highlighting the evils of the various types of tobacco including not only smoking but also tobacco chews and dental powders containing tobacco. The importance of genital hygiene and avoiding promiscuity to reduce both cancer cervix as well as penile cancers was emphasized. Hepatitis B vaccination was stressed. Efforts to develop targeted therapy were initiated including using radiolabelled moieties.
