ICPE was set up in 1999 on the recommendation of a Task Force constituted by MoEF to handle Environmental, Social and Technical issues of plastics and plastics waste in the country. Major Activities and Achievements are given below. , Successfully implemented Model Projects on Segregation of Dry Waste at source in some Wards of Mumbai. In 2015, 5000 MTs of Dry Waste was collected and segregated for recycling by 125 waste pickers who earned Rs. 3.1 Crores by selling the waste to the recyclers. , Successfully implemented Domestic Solid Waste Management system at a residential colony in New Delhi by setting up composting and energy pellate making plants. Non-recyclable plastics waste is converted to LDO range fuel by Pyrolysis Plant. No Waste from the colony goes to landfill. , Successful implementation of compacting of PET bottle waste collected from rail tracks of Mumbai into bales for transportation to recyclers in 2002 resulted in resolving PET Bottle waste management issue in the city. , In 2001, resolved the plastics waste management problem faced by eco sensitive hill station - Matheran near Mumbai. ICPE has undertaken Plastics Waste Management Programmes at various other locations namely Mahabaleshwar, Tirupathi, Ward 82 of Kolkata Corporation, New Delhi and Jhansi. , In 2008 ICPE jointly with cement major ACC Ltd and in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board for the first time in India demonstrated and established safe co processing of all types of plastics waste in cement kilns. , ICPE has developed its own technology and constructed a public road using plastics waste in Dadar, Mumbai in 2008.
