Special features of the organization
ICID strives to empower the vulnerable and weaker sections of the society and enable them to lead a dignified life. ICID promotes integral human growth through services to the needy and vulnerable in the society. The present focus of the organization is on the integral development of children with a special emphasis on the children in difficult situation who need special care and protection. It aims to create awareness among the street children on various social issues that affect them, to enable the children to access better health care and services and to promote child rights especially of survival, development and participation. The organization organizes various programs on health, hygiene, education, values and human rights with a special focus on children. , Yuvajyothi Care and Support centre provides basic facilities and mainstreams them through constant care, acceptance and special supportive environment. The centre is unique in its nature as it is located in a community which enables the children to interact with their peers as well as the elders in the community and be positively influenced. Over 500 children have accessed facilities till date. , Nirmal Jyothi Program is implemented at Gittikhadan among children in beggary and rag picking for a dignified living. Approximately 170 children access basic facilities, non formal education, recreational activities and 65 children are involved in small saving through bank accounts. Hygiene education, tuition classes, vocational training such as beauty culture, tailoring, embroidery and craft has been initiated are part of the program. , Asha Program include non formal education and capacity building of children from slum community. A centre is established at Hazaripahad where about 40 adolescent girls from slum communities are trained in embroidery, beauty culture, craft and tailoring. The Balwadi (kindergarten) focuses on the development of young children and prepare them for schooling. A playroom and a library has been provided at the centre. , Deepshika Program is implemented in Tulsi Nagar, near the dumping yard in Lakhad Ganj Zone of Nagpur city with the children in rag picking. The programme includes hygiene and life skill education for adolescents. The balwadi and toy centre prepares the pre school children for schooling and divert their attention from rag picking. Over 100 children benefit from the programme. , Regular summer camps on life skills are organized with the objective of building self confidence and providing opportunities for creative expression in children aged between 8-16 years from slum communities. Over 300 children participate in different camps every year. , Janya A project for reducing vulnerability towards HIV/AIDS and building life skills among the children in difficult situation supported by Avert Society Mumbai: 3021 children were given right information on Human Sexuality, STI, HIV/AIDS, 808 children were equipped with adequate life skills, 837 children in High Risk Behaviour were provided counselling, 3308 significant others were sensitized, more than 400 children participated in Bal Melas.
