Special features of the organization
Friendicoes SECA was established in 1979 and has been serving the city of Delhi in the field of Animal Welfare for thirty seven years by managing hospitals & shelters for sick, abused and distressed animals in the city of Delhi. We run 4 ambulances to rescue sick & diseased & abandoned animals. We control the stray dog population by humane sterilization & vaccination programme run in collaboration with MCD. , , Main aims of the organisation: , 1.Rescue of stray animals in distress, large and small, that have injured, those that are sick or have been abused or traumatised by cruel handling and abandoned pets. We respond to over 20,000 distress calls year. , , 2. Mobile Clinic for working Equine Welfare: A programme that has been running since 1984 provides free medical treatment to the horses and donkeys working at tonga stands, brick kilns and construction sites in and around Delhi, Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Ghaziabad Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Vrindavan, Mathura, Jewar, Tappal, Bharatpur and Agra. Treating over 5,000 working equines each year. , , We also build shade shelters and water troughs to give them relief and prevent dehydration during their work in the scorching sun. , , 3. Spay / Neuter of Stray Dogs and Cats: , Friendicoes runs three Spay / Neuter units at Telangpur Kotla, (South West Delhi) Gazipur (East Delhi) and Defence Colony (South and Central Delhi) as well as a spay / neuter unit in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar islands. We have always supported sterilization as the humane way of controlling the stray animal population and advocated mass vaccination as a measure for controlling rabies. Currently Friendicoes performs over 1,500 spay neuters each month or 18000 per annum. , , 4. Lifetime Care Sanctuary for all animals: Our lifetime animal care sanctuary located in Gurgaon. Currently we have over 1,300 animals in our care, which includes cats, dogs, donkeys, mules, and horses. , , 5. Compassion Education & Public Awareness: We attempt to educate the public on compassion and to adopt rescued and abandoned dogs. We educate people in responsible pet ownership. , , 6. Sustainability: Our model for long term sustainability is a surgery and clinic with a diagnostic path lab at the Delhi city shelter which provides affordable healthcare to people from low income groups for their pets & the stray animals brought in by people who feed them and takes care of them, as well as all animals rescued by our animal ambulances. , , 7. School Education project: We run specific programmes called Mutthi Bhar Jeevan where the children bring one fistful of rice and dal to school and put it in a box. The class then donates the collected grains to Friendicoes to feed rescued animals. , , 8. Disaster Relief: Friendicoes SECA is also the first to rush to do relief work at sites of natural disasters. Rescuing animals in peril, providing food and veterinary care for animals affected by the 2004 Tsunami, Gujrat Earthquake, Mumbai Floods, Assam Floods, Bihar Floods, Uttarakhand Floods and the Chennai Floods.
