Engineering College, and Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital were founded in 1988 and 1991 respectively were upgraded to a Deemed University status in the name and style of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, University in 2003. A.C.S.Medical College and Hospital, offering MBBS course, has been brought as a constituent institution in 2013. , , The courses of the University are approved by respective statutory bodies like AICTE, DCI, MCI, INC, NCTE, etc., and accredited by NAAC.
