Special features of the organization

Bhartiya Grameen Mahila Sangh(BGMS is a national level organization, was established in 1960 with the objective of developing leadership among urban and rural women and equipping them with the tools for empowerment. BGMS, Madhya Pradesh branch with its headquarter at Indore started with 5 members and now has 325 life members, 550 SHGs, and 16 district branches in all over India. It works for women and child health, water and sanitation, school hygiene program, micro finance, education, leadership improvement programs and rehabilitation of families with family counseling. At present, BGMS is having partnership with water AID, UN habitat, Transport corporation of India foundation, child fund India, world learning USAID, NABARD, central & Social welfare Board etc. BGMS have done commendable work on different issues. 9 slums of Indore city are decleared OD free and constructed 1080 individual household toilets in15 slums Under HIV/AIDs prevention program about 40,000 truckers are provided with awareness on HIV and this program acquired a number one position amongst the 15 at all over India.In Dhar district, organization providing education facilities hygiene and nutrition to children, drinking water facility to remote villages and microfinance for economic dev. Under urban health program awareness to pregnant women and mothers of 0-1 children are given. In target area we achieved 78 percent complete immunization target. Till now organization formed 500 SHGs in 100 villages of Indore district. in adult literacy by making literate nearly 50,000 men and women, specially women, Sc and ST in the rural area for its significant contribution to the field of women education its founder chairman, Mrs Krishna Agrawal was awarded Nehru Literacy Award in 1979.BGMS.
