The B. V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education & Research Development (PERD) Centre was established in 1989 by the Gujarat Branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association with the help of Indian Pharmaceutical Companies and the Government of Gujarat, in the memory of late Shri. B. V. Patel, who was the first Drug Controller of Gujarat and truly considered as the father of drug legislation in India. , PERD Centre is India s first multidisciplinary research institute, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the pharmaceutical sciences. The focus of centre is on three aspects namely; Basic Research, Services to Industries and Continuing Education Program. PERD Centre brings together a diverse interdisciplinary team of experts in the basic science, chemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology, analytical, herbals and other areas of pharmaceuticals sciences. Industries Commissionerate, Government of Gujarat has recognized PERD Centre as Centre of Excellence (COE) for providing technical assistance to small & medium industries for quality control and quality assurance standards for drugs & drug formulations, and herbal drugs. PERD Centre has opened up for collaborations with industry both in India and abroad for developing formulations, synthesis of compound libraries in the therapeutic areas like Cancer, Inflammation, Diabetes and Infectious diseases, etc. , Equipped with the latest and best R & D facilities, highly qualified scientific & technical personnel & regular education, training and developmental activities, PERD today is an internationally recognized research institute providing the Pharmaceutical Industry and Academia the opportunity and resources to undertake the latest in research and development in pharmaceutical sciences. , The focus of research at PERD Centre is on drug discovery (synthetic, herbal, biotherapeutics), dug development, drug delivery, drug toxicity and efficacy. Our expertise is in the areas of standardization of herbal drugs, impurity profiling of API, formulation development, mammalian cell culture studies, toxicity and pharmacokinetic studies in animals. , Over the past few years, PERD Centre has produced a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, national and international patents and awards thereby recognizing the potential and capabilities of the institute and its faculties. The Centre also has a distinction of getting research grants both from State and Central Government.
